For several years the Parish Council and Venue have been working towards providing more activities and opportunities for youth in the community. An idea to form a cooperative programme with other Cliff Villages and share a professional youth worker failed to get a funding grant from the Lottery so we have now decided to move ahead with a Navenby project to be managed by the ENERGIZE group, part of the ACTS Charitable Trust, based in Lincoln. The project kicked-off with an Activity Week in August at the Venue and Playing Field and will continue with club activities every Monday evening in the Venue Club Room from 15th September to 27th July 2015. There will be separate sessions for 8-12 (6.00 - 7.30pm) and 13-18 (7.30-9.00pm) age groups. The cost to participate will be only 50p per session. There are no restrictions on who can register so your friends from other villages are welcome to join in.

ENERGIZE has gained a great reputation for their work at Waddington Youth Club and other locations around Lincoln with activities aimed at what the members want to do.

If you are a parent and would like to volunteer some time to help out over the next year - that would be much appreciated. The project is funded by the Parish Council and the Venue at £200 per week but donations would be welcome and help to fund additional equipment and to support a programme of Day Trips for club members that Energize are willing to organise.

For the last two years, the County Council has been working on a plan to revise the way that library services are delivered. Driven by the need to control budgets and by the changes in the way we all access information and books, the Council has developed a tiered plan for library services. Tier 1 or Core libraries will remain in the major towns and be open 50 hours per week. Tier 2 libraries will be located at Bourne, Market Rasen, Horncastle, Long Sutton and Woodhall Spa and open for 25 hours per week. With more than 550 households, Navenby qualifies for a Tier 3 service to replace the Mobile Library with a community run library to be open at least 6 hours per week. This will receive funding support from the Council and be run by volunteers. Smaller communities will still be supported by the mobile library.

We have worked with the county librarian to establish the support and equipment needed and have room at The Venue alongside the Village Office to provide space for the library. We would like to offer library access several days each week and for longer than the minimum 6 hours - with the actual times and hours dependent on the availability of volunteers who can staff the library. The plan is to open the library as soon as possible. The service will include book lending, with the ability to reserve a book on-line to be delivered to the library, internet access and computer facilities for personal use. We hope also to eventually provide a downloadable book service directly to an electronic reader which many libraries now offer.

Update: March 2015 - LCC has decided to move ahead with the Community Library project prior to completing the tenders for future management of the libraries. The target for Navenby is to open the library in October 2015 but a final decision is pending.
